(QCA EXPECTATIONS)
children will (must should could):
- explain that shadows are formed when light from a source is blocked;
- explain that even transparent objects block some light and form shadows
- recognise that shadows are similar in shape to the objects forming them;
- describe how a shadow from the Sun changes over the course of a day;
- changes in shadows from the Sun over the course of a day arise from the movement of the Earth
- make predictions about the shadows formed by different objects or materials and
- make careful observations and measurements of the shadows
- Research and compare materials which you should use to make a pair of sunglass lenses. Make a short talk or presentation which summarises what you have found out.
- Make a shadow puppet play which uses some coloured shadows to show mood or setting
- Make a class sundial for children to use to tell the time when they are in the playground. Prepare a brief email which can be sent to Heads of Year which explains what you have done and how to use the sundial to tell the time.
